Course goal

To enhance knowledge of health care professionals on non-communicable diseases, its risk factors, risk assessment, screening and prevention strategies.
Course content:
- Overview of NCDs and risk factors
- Burden of NCDs
- Health Transition
- Environmental, Nutritional & Gender Issues of NCDs
- Screening & risk assessment of NCDs
- Surveillance of NCDs
- Prevention & Control Strategy of NCDs
- Global Voluntary Target 2025 & SDG
- NCD in humanitarian crisis and high-risk population
- Health System Challenges
Learning Objectives:
After the course, the participants will be able to
- Understand the magnitude of major NCDs in developing and developed countries,
- Know the burden of risk factors of NCDs and identify the shared and clustering of risk factors of NCDs,
- Learn the prevention strategies for different NCDs,
- Recognize the socioeconomic burden of NCDs,
- Interpret different health transitions of NCDs,
- Understand the globalization of NCDs,
- Explain the environmental & gender related issues and special concerns of NCDs, and
- Know the health system challenges in tackling NCDs.

- Total Lecture Credit hours: 30 hrs (in-person via Zoom)
- Total Group Activities Credit hours: 14 hrs (in-person via Zoom)
- Total Assignment Credit hours: 46 hrs (self-study)

Eligibility Criteria:
Course participants should belong to one of these three groups:
- Students who have completed their Bachelor’s degree (min. 4 years) in health sciences, including MBBS, MD, BDS, BPT, Nursing, Public Health, etc.
- Students who have completed or are pursuing any postgraduate studies related to health sciences
- Health professionals working in governmental, private or non-governmental institutions in the field of public health
